What are permanent sheet piles?

Sheet pile walls have been used to support underground parking structures, basements, pump houses and excavations for foundations, to construct cofferdams, and to build seawalls and bulkheads. Permanent sheet piles are designed to provide a long service life. Vibratory hammers are commonly used to install sheet piles. If the soil is too hard or too dense, an impact hammer may be used to complete the installation. In certain locations where vibration is a consideration, the sheet can be hydraulically pushed into the ground.
